The new Tokyo International Manga Library, which will house two million + manga, anime, games and related media (think cels, character goods, figures, dojinshi), is scheduled to open in 2014 at the Surugadai campus of Meiji University. The building planned to house the collection will be 5 stories and 8, 500 square meters (think 2+ acres).

Meanwhile, Kyoto has had Kyoto International Manga Museum since 2006. With 500 yen (think $5.50) you can buy a day pass to the museum, where you can read all the manga you want from its collection.

Inuyasha Again

Rumors and reports have it that the Inuyasha anime series will resume this fall in October with Inuyasha: Kanketsuhen (Inuyasha: The Final Chapters) on Japan’s YTV.

The Inuyasha manga ended with Volume #56 last June but the 167 episodes of the anime only covered the manga through Volume #36. That works out to approximately 4.6 anime episodes per book. With 20 books remaining, that means how many episodes ahead?

Reports also say the original voice cast is returning.

Bandai is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Gundam Wing with a Gundam monument in Odaiba Shiokaze park in Tokyo. Although The Gundam lacks scythe or beam cannons, it is 59 feet tall. It will be in residence throught the summer.

Japan

and North America on April 22nd.

he first chapter of Takahashi’s new manga will appear in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in Japan. In North America it will appear in English on the new RumicWorld.com Website, which will become the official North American Website for all Rumiko Takahashi-related news and information.

I guess since the updates have been abandoned by Nola (Glare!) I will have to pick them up until she (Glare and point finger!) wants to continue with events, recommendations, and news.

Today I will be reviewing xxxHOLiC which is a manga and anime series created by CLAMP. This series is about Watanuki Kimihiro and his life working as a worker in a shop that inexplicably lures those who want their wishes granted. Unfortunately the wishes you so desperately want to fulfill come with a price. After all it is a shop, isn't it? The owner, Yuko Ichihara, along with her servants, Maro and Moro, maintain the shop until someone enters through the doors. When a wish is made the payment must be something of equal value. It could be something material or immaterial depending on the transaction. The world of xxxHOLiC also meshes with other worlds in CLAMP'S arsenal. The worlds are Cardcaptor Sakura, Tsubasa: Resevoir Chronicle, Legal Drug, Chobits and many others. "Clamp has stated that Tsubasa and xxxHOLiC are meant to tie all of their works together, yet still stand alone as their own stories." I recommend this series to anyone who enjoy anime with supernatural events and occasional hints of anime crossovers.

There hasn't been a new post in such a long time so I think it's time for a new one. anyway this one will be a recommendation to an anime series that not many people acknowledge; Black Cat.
The series starts with our hero, Train Heartnet, finishing his kill as an assassin working for an organization bent on world peace called Chronos. But as time goes on we meet other characters who change his personality for the better. Two sweepers(Bounty hunters), a theif, and a bioweapon turn a cold and distant Black Cat into a lighthearted, friend tormentor.
I highly recommend you give the anime a try. (The manga is good but not as good as the anime)

HOW TO MAKE POCKY

Ingredients:

Glico Pretz Roast Biscuit Sticks (http://www.veryasia.com/glprro.html)

(Glico Salad Sticks are non-vegetarian. They have chicken & pork extract in them)

and/or

Italian bread sticks

bittersweet chocolate chips

white chocolate chips

milk chocolate chips

butterscotch

(peanut butter chips don't work)

dipping chocolate*

PLUS

crushed nuts, crushed candy etc.

Lots of paper or plastic tablecloths to cover tables on which you work

wax paper and/or coated paper plates

Melt the chips (microwave works - just stir half way through)

Put the melted chips into a container tall enough to dip in sticks and coat them at least half way up (such as 7 oz hot cups)

Dip the sticks into the chocolate (leaving one end dip-free)

Coat the sticks according to preference

Lay wax paper or coated paper plates to cool

*Make dipping chocolate by mixing 2 T of butter or shortening to 12 oz of melted chips. Makes it easier to dip.

**Do not use extract to flavor chips. Extract causes chocolate to seize.

Viz Media is going to release Bleach the Movie: Memories of Nobody this summer in theatres, then release it on DVD. The movie is directed by Noriyuki Abe, who directed the TV anime. No word on whether Viz is planning to pick up the second feature movie based on Bleach.

Also, we have an extra copy or two of Fruits Basket 19. Sounds like a raffle prize to me. (Oh, right -- new manga just arrived.)

TokyoPop just announced that it will be releasing Fruits Basket mangaka Natsuki Takaya's first manga, Geneimuso, aka Phantom Dreams. It's going to be cross-promo'd with an excerpt in Fruits Basket 21.

just read a really good manga that nola sugested and it was very cool. cant remeber the title of it right now but im sure if you adk her she could tell you. if you need something to read just ask her she knows how to pick the good ones. well she just proved my point she got the copy and gave it to me so taht i could see it. the manga is called variante about a girl whos left arm has chimera dna in it. thats all i will say since i dont want to give away the ending.

"Death Note: The Los Angeles B.B. Murder Cases", Which is narrated by Mello, is a novel written by NISIOISIN which follows Naomi Misora and the events that lead to the end of the B.B. murder cases. Misora, an L.A. cop, has been recruited by L, the most accomplished private eye this world has ever seen, to solve a serial murder case that has piqued his interests. Although Misora has heard of L she has no idea of what he looks like since he has never shown his face to the public. She is accompanied by Rue Ryuzaki (who is in fact L) in the solving of this case and uses his strange techniques to do so. I highly recommend this comedic crime novel to those who are knowledgeable to the world of Death Note. Enjoy!!!

Oh my god.... OH MY GOD!!!! This book which is narrated by the bada** Mello is so ... How do I put this? AMAZING!!!!! Anyway that just may be one Death Note fanatic gushing about his favorite manga, but whatever. The book follows Naomi Misora as she helps L- Oh sorry, Ryuzaki find the "Beyond Birthday" murderer. I highly suggest you read it. ^_^

Decorations crafty: on Tuesday December 11, we're planning a holiday decorations workshop (things to hang from trees, on walls, pillows). You must bring in what you want to make (if it is something specific) on Tuesday December 6.

"Actor Kenichi Matsuyama will be releasing a photobook next year - not as himself, but as the character L from the popular "Death Note" movies. The collection, photographed by Mika Ninagawa, will go on sale around the same time as the theatrical release of the "Death Note" spinoff, "L change the WorLd." The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on February 9. Ninagawa is said to be a fan of L, and it was she that proposed the idea. The theme of the photobook is to depict L's everyday self. On Tuesday December 4th we're getting crafty -- local crafts impressario Amy Hess is going to be here with lots of materials to help in creating large stuffed objects (pillows, maybe?) & small stuffed objects (decorations? things to hang on your rear view mirror? earrings?). She is going to be making patterns in the meantime. I suggested patterns for, oh, I don't know, PIKACHU? A RICE BALL? THE ZODIAC ANIMALS from FRUITS BASKET?

You see where I'm going with this -- come next week prepared to brainstorm on what we want to make.

And btw, this isn't limited to Manga/Anime Club members, so if you know someone who might be interested, ask h/h to join us.

I just saw Ms. Andria, everybody's favorite school librarian, and she asked me to recommend some manga & graphic novels to her. So I suggested AMERICAN BORN CHINESE and the MEGATOKYO series (the latter because I am still trying to figure out L33T - did I spell that correctly?).

But what else would you recommend? It has to be something that readers of all ages could enjoy. I told Ms. Andria I was going to ask for recommendations here, so she's going to be checking the blog to see what we come up with.

Just ordered Death Note How to Read 13. Viz's pub date is February 19, 2008. And we put in an order for lots more manga & graphic novels, then realized a couple of things had been left off. So if anyone wants something added, now's the time.

Plan for next Manga/Anime Club meeting: Make plans for Halloween decorations, bookmarks, etc. More pinatas seem like a good idea.

Stayed up very late last night to watch Saiyuki Requiem. I liked it. The animation for the movie is much better than for the TV series. In fact, I liked it so much that I started started all over to listen to the seiyu commentaries. But. Not.

First, hi Melissa (aka Manga Party London Girl). We're glad you and Jacques (spelled right???) could come to the party. It was great you were there. We hope you come back -- we're going to the New York Comicon in the spring...

Next,I just got back from a Graphic Novel conference and need input. About graphic novels. Manga. Anime. For example, the author of MAIL ORDER NINJA was at the conference, and I know, it's not manga -- but I liked his stuff. You might, too, so I bought two of his books.

Third, pocky has been secured for the next meeting. But we need to make plans for some of our meetings this fall while eating said Pocky. Onigiri? Manga/anime drawing classes? Halloween costumes? Manga bookmarks? What?

Hey guys it’s me again (Jenny) the thing with the music I’m having a difficult time find some good music. Any music works, we need a player I don't know what the lib has. O.o come to think of it what are we doing for decorations?? I have a tank of helium I can blow up balloons. What are we doing for food, how many people ate attending, and where is it going to be held??? Your going to need a large space if there is going to be a large mass of people in costumes (they can get bulky).

oh and does anyone need help with the costumes?? I can help a little.

So I went into NYC this past wk & came back w/more manga because I found this great bookstore. The whole second floor is manga. Most of it is in Japanese but there is a small but growing English manga section. Some anime, too. Random -- you never know what you will find, but I think I brought back some pretty good stuff.

Also, music & plans for our cosplay party the 24th must commence immediately.

AND we finally placed that major anime order. Including yes, Death Note (anime), preordered the newest Bleach, another Hellsing, & some Black Cat, of course Saiyuki (I went for Reload & the movie this time), the Cowboy Bebop movie & some recs that I'd never heard of: Diamond Daydreams; Case Closed; Wild Arms; Mushishi. Also a little Flame of Recca, Paradise Kiss, Samurai Champloo... And no, don't know when they'll be here, but yes, not soon enough.

SORRY!!!! It's been taking me a while to get the next movie ready... apparently it's a lot harder to make the second one than the first DN.... there is so much anger!!!! I'm also going to lose a day of work for a reason that is so unbearably painful is has caused me to curse out life and rock back and forth in a fetal position in the corner of your room... that's right... your room... YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!!!!!. I DON'T NEED YOUR PITY!!!!!!!!!!! -sobs-

And if anyone has any idea why the first bleach movie hasn't been subbed yet...please tell me!

COSPLAY AHEAD + DEATH NOTE 12

On Friday August 24 starting @ 6:30 pm, we'll be hosting a cosplay party here at the library. The Animanga Club of Westhampton is the host and we've invited Hampton Bays Manga Club join us. But we can also invite other local clubs, so some invitation design is in order at the next club meeting. And some party planning.

Meanwhile, thanks to Bruno for our Death Note fest this past Tuesday. Thirteen Death Note fans ate 2.57 pizzas during the Light / L face0ff.

And Death Note 12 will be hitting our bookshelves next week. If you haven't placed your hold, you should. We've ordered 2 copies....

I've been having trouble downloading Death Note.
I have already made a DVD but the subtitles are ridiculously small.
So, I've been trying to fix that.
I have already started downloading an alternative movie with more visible subs
and it should be finished by tomorrow.

It's all done and the subs are more readable...At least thats what I think...

The Westhampton Anime & Manga Club is hosting a cosplay party in August. We've invited Hampton Bays Manga Club & Southampton's Manga Club to join us. The tentative date is Friday August 24 @ 6:00 pm. That's not the definite, final date, but the party IS definitely on.

We start planning costumes this Tuesday, June 19. So bring in a photo, sketch, picture, whatever of the the costume you want to wear & we'll figure out how to make it. Seriously. But we're going to need all the help we can get, so be there.

Also, there will be anime. And, of course, snacks.

Also, we had a new manga club member this past Tuesday who has promised to share some of his expertise with us. And some of his animes (You know who you are).

The menu, er, program for the Anime Club Tuesday June 5 is: Wolf's Rain from 7:00 to 8:00 and then to be decided at the meeting at 7:00. Some so you there for anime.

50 manga. That's how many new manga we put out at the last meeting. After the meeting, they went onto the shelves. Over 30 have been checked out.

We're going to get the others out by the next manga meeting, so...

Meanwhile, the Anime Club will meet this Tuesday, May 22 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. We'll show some more Saiyuki, maybe. And something new. (If you were at the manga meeting, you know).

Also, we've rescheduled the Karate Klasses: they'll be starting Wednesday May 30. We've had six sign ups. So there are a few some spaces left.

Club Manga Meets
