The Anime Festival is over. So you can start thinking about the Comicon. Go here.

Getting Crafty

Gingerbread crafty: the Club has 2 Gingerbread houses to decorate at the Gingerbread House Workshop on Thursday, December 8 @ 6:30 pm.

How many of you are going to decorate? We need to know by Tuesday December 6, aka the next club meeting.

Decorations crafty: on Tuesday December 11, we're planning a holiday decorations workshop (things to hang from trees, on walls, pillows). You must bring in what you want to make (if it is something specific) on Tuesday December 6.

So Tuesday December 6: Gingerbread house - yes or no?
Holiday decorations - what?

DEATH NOTE NOTE

From Tokyograph.com:

"Actor
Kenichi Matsuyama will be releasing a photobook next year - not as himself, but as the character L from the popular "Death Note" movies. The collection, photographed by Mika Ninagawa, will go on sale around the same time as the theatrical release of the "Death Note" spinoff, "L change the WorLd." The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on February 9. Ninagawa is said to be a fan of L, and it was she that proposed the idea. The theme of the photobook is to depict L's everyday self. Photos were taken between August and September, at locations such as Shibuya Center Gai and the Hanayashiki Amusement Park in Asakusa."

SCARY SCARY LIBRARY

Hey, y'all. Excellent Halloween costumes - those were costumes, right?

Casio, you left your wings. Also, would you be willing to recreate the look? We didn't get a pic & we want one. If so, bring costume & makeup in next Tuesday for the photo op. That goes for you, too, Susan. And John. And anyone else we didn't get to lens for posterity...

Meanwhile, check out the new links.

What else?
Ah yes. The Death Note poster. Still working on What To Do.

MirrorMask

Two things:

MirrorMask. I think we should watch some of it tomorrow night (Yes. We will watch Blood: The Last Vampire on October 30) Here's the Mirror Mask blurb: "A girl from a family of circus performers finds herself in a strange new world populated by mysterious creatures--a dreamworld in which she is about to embark on a most amazing journey..."

There's also in a full-color graphic novella. Both are written by Neil Gaiman. So you know it's good.

Also, Jennifer (where are you?) - we need a few more photos from our cosplay party. Can you upload/bring a disk next time you come to the meeting?

And Happy Belated Birthday to Susan. Singing implied here. And hello to Yulan, who stopped by on Saturday. We miss y'all...

Okay, that was a few more than two things.

STUFFED STUFF

On Tuesday December 4th we're getting crafty -- local crafts impressario Amy Hess is going to be here with lots of materials to help in creating large stuffed objects (pillows, maybe?) & small stuffed objects (decorations? things to hang on your rear view mirror? earrings?). She is going to be making patterns in the meantime. I suggested patterns for, oh, I don't know, PIKACHU? A RICE BALL? THE ZODIAC ANIMALS from FRUITS BASKET?
You see where I'm going with this -- come next week prepared to brainstorm on what we want to make.

And btw, this isn't limited to Manga/Anime Club members, so if you know someone who might be interested, ask h/h to join us.

RECOMMENDATIONS, PLEASE

I just saw Ms. Andria, everybody's favorite school librarian, and she asked me to recommend some manga & graphic novels to her. So I suggested AMERICAN BORN CHINESE and the MEGATOKYO series (the latter because I am still trying to figure out L33T - did I spell that correctly?).

But what else would you recommend? It has to be something that readers of all ages could enjoy. I told Ms. Andria I was going to ask for recommendations here, so she's going to be checking the blog to see what we come up with.

Let us know.

DEATH NOTEs

Just ordered Death Note How to Read 13. Viz's pub date is February 19, 2008. And we put in an order for lots more manga & graphic novels, then realized a couple of things had been left off. So if anyone wants something added, now's the time.

Plan for next Manga/Anime Club meeting: Make plans for Halloween decorations, bookmarks, etc. More pinatas seem like a good idea.

Stayed up very late last night to watch Saiyuki Requiem. I liked it. The animation for the movie is much better than for the TV series. In fact, I liked it so much that I started started all over to listen to the seiyu commentaries. But. Not.
And in the too much information category: Wikipedia has a list of "notable voice actors" here:

MANGA. MORE.

Okay, we're ordering here. Really. Finishing up a manga order, so now is your chance to let the library know WHAT YOU WANT. (Did I just shout. Sorry. Meant to use my librarian voice.) This is what is on the list: more NANA, HANA KIMI, ABSOLUTE BOYFRIEND, BLEACH, VAGABOND, GODCHILD, BLACK CAT, CAIN SAGA, ES, RUROUNI KENSHIN, TENSHI LA NAI (I'M NO ANGEL). Oh, yes - and the next FRUITS BASKET. But I think I remember y'all mentioning others. Did someone say EMBALMER? Do you want more JING, KING OF BANDITS? TRINITY BLOOD? VAMPIRE KNIGHTS? And that wasn't all. Was it?

The POINT IS, post & let us know. 'Cause we're not manga characters here. We can't read minds...

MAKING PLANS, EATING POCKY

First, hi Melissa (aka Manga Party London Girl). We're glad you and Jacques (spelled right???) could come to the party. It was great you were there. We hope you come back -- we're going to the New York Comicon in the spring...

Next,I just got back from a Graphic Novel conference and need input. About graphic novels. Manga. Anime. For example, the author of MAIL ORDER NINJA was at the conference, and I know, it's not manga -- but I liked his stuff. You might, too, so I bought two of his books.

Third, pocky has been secured for the next meeting. But we need to make plans for some of our meetings this fall while eating said Pocky. Onigiri? Manga/anime drawing classes? Halloween costumes? Manga bookmarks? What?

Think about it.

See you then.

Some last minute questions

Hey guys it’s me again (Jenny) the thing with the music I’m having a difficult time find some good music. Any music works, we need a player I don't know what the lib has. O.o come to think of it what are we doing for decorations?? I have a tank of helium I can blow up balloons. What are we doing for food, how many people ate attending, and where is it going to be held??? Your going to need a large space if there is going to be a large mass of people in costumes (they can get bulky).

oh and does anyone need help with the costumes?? I can help a little.

MANGA. MORE

So I went into NYC this past wk & came back w/more manga because I found this great bookstore. The whole second floor is manga. Most of it is in Japanese but there is a small but growing English manga section. Some anime, too. Random -- you never know what you will find, but I think I brought back some pretty good stuff.

Also, music & plans for our cosplay party the 24th must commence immediately.

So come to the next meeting prepared.

The Westhampton Anime & Manga Club is hosting a cosplay party in August. We've invited Hampton Bays Manga Club & Southampton's Manga Club to join us. The tentative date is Friday August 24 @ 6:00 pm. That's not the definite, final date, but the party IS definitely on.

We start planning costumes this Tuesday, June 19. So bring in a photo, sketch, picture, whatever of the the costume you want to wear & we'll figure out how to make it. Seriously. But we're going to need all the help we can get, so be there.

Well?

Anime Club and shouting

Hey y'all,

The Anime Club will meet this Tuesday March 20 from 6:00 - 7:30 pm. We'll have pizza while we watch a little Saiyuki and a couple of episodes of The Get Backers. We'll also vote on what we want to watch next and start working on a anime wish list for the library.

So come prepared.

Also check out Club Manga's pretty excellent display in the small display case in the Library. Everyone brought in interesting stuff (I still don't get the bottles...) and even original art work.

Which brings me to another subject: Is anyone interested in having

1) an artist to teach a class or two (or more) in how to draw & create manga?

2) a course in karate?
